Course Title:
Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for School Guidance Counselors
Course Overview
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is built on the premise that thoughts and feelings play a fundamental role in human behaviour. Furthermore, while we cannot always control the external forces, we can change and modify how we interpret things.
As a solution-oriented and practical form of talk therapy, CBT is popular among helping professionals. Evidence also suggests that CBT is the single most effective method to teach coping strategies and treatments for many mental health conditions including, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, phobias and addiction. It is also useful in helping to cope with everyday problems like insomnia, relationship issues, grief and loss, low self-esteem, anger management and so forth.
In this course, you will learn to apply CBT skills and tools to create individualized plans to address the unique needs of each child, adolescent or adult. Instead of rote learning of theory, you will build an understanding of the theory through activities.
